Legendary Actor Dead at 87

Charles Dierkop, known for his role as George,

“Flat Nose” Curry in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” passed away at 87. He died of a heart attack followed by pneumonia on February 25 at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles, according to his daughter Lynn.

Dierkop’s notable roles included appearances in “The Sting” with Paul Newman and Robert Redford, and the series “Police Woman” with Angie Dickinson. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1936, he served in the US military in Korea and studied at the American Foundation of Dramatic Arts in Philadelphia.

His unique look, characterized by a broken nose, helped him land his iconic role in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Married to Joan Addis from 1958 to 1974, Dierkop had two children, including a son who predeceased him at age 29.
