Philly cheesesteak

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • Mushrooms, sliced (quantity as desired)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 lb. ground meat (beef or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Cheese Whiz (to taste)
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook until tender, about 7-10 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, then remove from heat.
  3. Prepare Meatloaf Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, salt, pepper, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, egg, bread crumbs, and the sautéed vegetable mixture. Mix well.
  4. Assemble Meatloaf: Place half of the meat mixture into a loaf shape on a baking sheet. Lay a solid layer of provolone in the middle, then top with the remaining meat mixture. Seal the edges and shape as desired.
  5. Bake: Cook in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes or until cooked through.
  6. Add Cheese Topping: Lay sliced provolone over the cooked meatloaf. Return to the oven and broil for 2-4 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
