Brown Sugar and Bacon Baked Beans

Far superior to canned versions, these beans are flavorful, slightly sweet with a touch of savory, and utterly satisfying.

  • 1 (28 oz) can original baked beans, half the liquid drained
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup mustard
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ red onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamarind for gluten-free option)
  • ¼ cup Breckenridge Bourbon (adjust to taste)
  • 3 slices bacon

  1. Prep Oven: Preheat it to 375°F.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a 12″ cast iron skillet or a 9″x13″ baking dish, combine baked beans, ketchup, mustard, minced garlic, brown sugar, diced red onion, soy sauce, and bourbon. Stir well to integrate all the flavors.
  3. Add Bacon: Cut the bacon into 1-inch pieces and scatter them evenly over the top of the bean mixture.
  4. Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the bacon is fully cooked and the beans are hot throughout.
  5. Rest and Serve: Allow the baked beans to sit for about 5 minutes after removing from the oven. Then, serve warm and enjoy!
