Apple Dumplings Recipe

These warm, flaky apple dumplings, reminiscent of my grandmother’s cooking, are sweet and satisfying with a delightful sauce,

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cup sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 canned buttermilk biscuits
  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Prepare Apples: Peel, core, and slice each apple into 8 vertical slices. Dip slices in a bowl of water with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Make Sauce: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 3/4 cup sugar, butter, and vanilla. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Wrap Apples: Separate the biscuits into two layers. Stretch each biscuit layer around an apple slice, overlapping the ends and sealing at the bottom. Place wrapped slices, sealed-side down, in a 9x12x2-inch casserole dish.
  5. Add Sauce and Sugar: Pour the hot sugar mixture over the wrapped apples. Combine the remaining 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle it over the dumplings.
  6. Bake: Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve these apple dumplings warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, to enjoy a classic dessert that’s perfect for any occasion.
