She’s had her license plate for 15 years, but now the state finds it “inappropriate.”

Custom license plates let car owners express their individuality, often with creative messages. However, states sometimes reject plates with potentially offensive language. Wendy Auger, a bartender from Rochester, NH, faced this issue when her 15-year-old plate “PB4WEGO” was suddenly deemed inappropriate by the DMV.

Auger, surprised by the rejection, argued that the phrase is just practical advice, not offensive, and believes the state is suppressing her freedom of speech. She had waited years for the chance to use this plate after NH increased the character limit from six to seven.

The state, however, maintains that their decision aligns with a court order and current regulations. Should Auger be forced to replace her plate?
