14-Year-Old Boy Tragically Dies While Running A 5k

In a heartbreaking incident, 14-year-old Knox MacEwen died during a 5K race at Everglades High School in Florida. The teenager suffered cardiac arrest while running, leading to his untimely death.

Emergency personnel responded around 9 a.m. on Saturday. Despite their efforts, MacEwen was transported to Memorial Miramar but could not be revived. The student at Western High School in Davie was participating in a Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) exercise at the time.

Western High Principal Jimmy Arrojo expressed condolences, stating, “One of our JROTC students passed away this morning after being transported to the hospital. I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones, teachers, and classmates as they mourn this great loss.” Grief counselors are available on campus to support students.

MacEwen’s pastor, Jon Elswick of Crossway Church in Cooper City, described him as deeply loved. “Knox embodied the best qualities among us,” Elswick shared, highlighting the teenager’s love, compassion, and humor.
